Topanga Beach
Topanga Beach is the perfect spot for surfers of all abilities. With a variety of wave sizes, you can experience up to 10 foot swells. Rolling over a mixture of both rocky and sandy terrain, Topanga Beach offers the potential for varied surf. One of the most popular beaches in Malibu, it’s good to get their early to avoid the crowds.
Surfrider Beach
Dedicated as the first-ever World Surfing Reserve in 2010, the beach has three main surfing areas. First Point is popular for long boarding, Second Point is often used for the more experienced surfer, and Third Point has both a left and right side waves. With Malibu standing proudly in the background, Surfrider has been idolized in many a classic surfing scene on the silver screen. When the swell is high, prepare to face big crowds. There are options for surfboard and wetsuit rentals.
Zuma Beach
The three mile long beach offers a variety of surfing suitable for all abilities. The south end of Zuma has a stretch called Drainpipes, where you will encounter some of the more dramatic beach breaks in Malibu. When looking for a break from the waves, the soft sand offers up the perfect spot to take in the sun. Volleyball fans are also treated to several courts.
County Line
The long white beach is home to gentle waves, perfect for beginners. The Beach Boys name checked it in their hit “Surfin’ USA.” The edges of the beach offer a bit more challenge for experienced surfers. Winds can pick up in the afternoon, but mornings tend to be calm. Neptune’s Net is a popular lunch spot, and has been featured in films and tv shows such as Gossip Girl, and the Fast and Furious.
