Summer Programs in 2020 and 2021
ACA has been developing and running safe and secure pre-college summer programs for teens for almost 30 years. In 2020 and 2021, ACA made the decision to develop programs that would offer a safe and enjoyable social experience for the teens whose lives had been greatly impacted by the significant changes to their lives from COVID-19. ACA worked tirelessly to make various pivots based on vivid protocols and the safest locations. ACA made the decision to move its operations for Summer 2020 to Burlington, Vermont – a location that had a minimal number of COVID cases and offered ACA the peace-of-mind that was required to run one of our successful and exciting programs.
ACA developed a COVID plan with the insight from the leadership in the State of Vermont, the CDC, the WHO and the American Camp Association which ACA has been a member for 25 years. ACA students and staff were required to quarantine the week prior to the program and be COVID tested during that week. In addition, students were required to wear masks, social distance, and follow the guidelines of the program. All students had daily temperature checks by our RN 3 times each day to be proactive should a student start to develop symptoms. Our team had extensive training prior to students’ arrival. All staff quarantined and were tested prior to the program.
ACA students were amazing about COVID protocols and followed all procedures. Our students had a wonderful summer and felt it was an amazing experience that allowed them a sense of normalcy and fun when their options had all been canceled for the summer. Here at ACA, we enjoyed running a safe and engaging program utilizing the beautiful landscape and great outdoors of Burlington. It is with great appreciation and satisfaction that all students, staff, directors, instructors and ownership were able to run a safe and successful program without incident or illness of any kind during summer 2020.
Here at ACA, we are truly grateful for the opportunity to have made an impact in the lives of our students and their families. We look forward to more locations and students for Summer 2021, especially after having run a successful summer during an incredibly complicated time.
